Sporting Events
At West Park, we’re very privileged to have such fantastic sporting stars in our school and we feel it is important to share their sporting successes and achievements with you all.
During the Spring and Summer Term, we have taken part in a range of sporting events which I’m sure you’d love to hear about!
Pupils from Year 3 and 4 performed brilliantly during their gymnastics festival at Davison High School. They worked incredibly hard throughout the day to learn new skills and routines to perform to their grown-ups at the end of the day. Well done to you all. You were all truly fantastic!
Well done to our wonderful golfers from Years 3 and 4 who took part in the Tri-Golf festival at Chesswood Primary School. You all showed fantastic team spirit and determination during the different activities. The boys and girls who took part, competed against 7 other schools and came 2nd overall, qualifying for the next round! A couple of weeks later, our super golfers went on to compete in the Southern Finals at Rustington Golf Centre. West Park competed against other schools from the Worthing, Shoreham and Littlehampton areas. After lots of putting and chipping, West Park finished 2nd which is an incredible achievement! Well done, everyone!
Our wonderful KS1 pupils were finally able to take part in their football tournament after it was rescheduled due to wet weather. West Park had two teams taking part, consisting of pupils in both Year 1 and 2. They all represented our school brilliantly with some fantastic goals being scored. Well done to West Park Blue who came 5th overall and West Park Yellow who came joint 3rd. What a super achievement and well done to you all!
One Saturday evening, our boys swimming gala team travelled to the Guildford Spectrum to compete in the Regional Finals after qualifying in the freestyle event during the Spring Term. The boys gave everything they had during their heat race and managed to knock 7 seconds off their qualifying time. Following this, they were over the moon to find out that they had qualified for the finals due to their highly competitive time in the heats. The boys gave it their absolute all during the final race and swam with such pride and determination. We’re all so incredibly proud of you all. Great effort boys!
A group of Year 1 pupils went to Durrington High School for a morning of cricket fun! During the festival, our pupils practised their throwing, catching, batting and bowling skills. They played lots of exciting games and had a really great time. I’m sure we’ll see lots of them competing on the cricket pitch in the future. A big thank you to the Chance to Shine cricket coaches for organising such a fantastic festival.
Our wonderful Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the Quad Kids competition this term. West Park entered two teams into this event. Both West Park Yellow and West Park Blue took part with great effort and enthusiasm. They all competed in a long distance run, short sprint, vortex/howler throw and standing long jump. This event was a great success and West Park took home two bronze medals, one silver medal and two gold medals based on the children’s individual scores and the teams finished in 3rd and 1st place. What an achievement! You should all be very proud!
Not long after the Year 5 and 6 Quad Kids event, our Year 3 and 4 pupils took part in a Quad Kids competition at St Andrew High School. Once again, West Park entered two teams into this highly competitive event. Both teams showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout. West Park Yellow finished in 4th place and West Park Blue came 2nd overall, qualifying for the Southern finals. We also took home two gold medals as two of our Year 4 athletes achieved the highest scores of the day, which is truly fantastic! A huge well done to everyone who took part! We wish our athletes the best of luck during the Southern Finals.
A group of children from our Year 4 and Year 5 Striking and Fielding clubs attended the ‘Lancing College Cup’ cricket competition at Lancing College this term. A range of different schools from across the southern area took part. West Park played brilliantly, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. We finished in 3rd place after a jam-packed day of cricket fun! Well done to everyone involved!
The whole of Year 2 headed to the Legacy Games this term for our biggest event of the year. The children were fantastic and took part brilliantly. They didn’t let the hot and sticky temperature get in their way! West Park enjoyed taking part in a range of activities including multi-skills, football, Zumba and cricket. It was great to see the children having fun and trying new sports. Well done, Year 2! A big thank you goes to the wonderful Year 2 teachers for all their hard work organising this event and the parent/carer helpers who supported us on the day.
Following on from the Year 2’s success at the Legacy Games, our athletes from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 attended Worthing Leisure Centre for an afternoon of racing, throwing and jumping at the very prestigious and highly competitive KS2 Legacy Games. Once again, we were spoilt by the weather for this event. West Park participated in their track and field events fantastically resulting in many top 3 finishing positions. A special mention goes to Finley who won the 400m race, Libby and William who won the 600m races, Eliza who came 1st in the 50m sprint, Havana who won the 75m sprint and Charlie who came 1st in the howler throw with a distance of 40m (truly incredible!). Our relay teams were also incredibly successful. Our Year 4 boys relay team won in the final, our Year 5 girls relay team won their heat and their final race, our Year 6 boys relay team also won their heat and their final race and our Year 6 girls relay team finished 1st in their final race. Our success didn’t end here. We then moved onto the year group overall scores. Year 3 finished in 3rd place, Year 4 2nd place, Year 5 3rd place and Year 6 first place. With all these scores combined and the incredible team effort of every participant from West Park, we finished in 1st place overall out of 13 schools from across the Worthing area. It’s safe to say both the pupils, staff and parents involved were over the moon by this result! Team West Park, you should all be so incredibly proud of your effort, teamwork, team spirit and sportsmanship. You’re all sporting superstars!
A group of children from Year 5 attended Davison High School for a sports festival this term. They enjoyed taking part in many different sports throughout the day. These included: gymnastics, dance, teamwork challenges, dance technique, cricket, volleyball, kinball and trampolining. A huge well done to everyone that took part – you were all fantastic! A special well done to Marley and Grace who achieved the ‘Sports Person of the day’ awards and Benedetta and Charlie who were awarded the ‘Most Improved Sports Person’ certificate and medal. Well done, everyone!
On the same day as the Year 5 festival, 4 girls and 4 boys from Year 1 and 2 took part in a KS1 Quad Kids competition. They have all been working very hard during Mr Calvert’s athletics club and were able to show off their athletics skills. West Park had to complete 4 events during the competition – a mini vortex/howler throw, a long jump, a sprint and a long distance run. They all took part with such enthusiasm and determination. Well done to you all! You should all be very proud of yourselves for your efforts throughout the competition!
On Saturday, Luka from Year 5 represented West Park at the ESSA Summer Open Individual Swimming Competition. He travelled to the K2 in Crawley to compete in the 50m backstroke and the 100m freestyle races. The races were both highly competitive and consisted of competitors from all over including the London and Kent areas. Luka swam with his absolute all in both races which resulted in him achieving 2 county qualifying times. What a fantastic achievement! Well done, Luka. We are all so proud of you!
Please keep your eyes peeled for more sporting successes coming up this term.
